Brief History
During World War II, three cities disappeared from the map, one of them being Los Alamos in Northern New Mexico. P.O. Box 1663 became its original address, and the town quickly became home to a community of scientists, housing some of the world's finest researchers. The Manhattan Project was formed as a call to arms, driven by fears that Germany was developing its own nuclear weapons. Los Alamos National Laboratory was born out of an effort to build the atomic bomb, and in only about 27 months, the world's first atomic bomb was developed and detonated 200 miles south of Los Alamos at the Trinity Site. On that day, the atom had been successfully weaponized.
